Learn About Enterprise Zone Boundary Changes

April 22, 2015

Southwest Enterprise Zone boundaries are changing, effective on Jan. 1, 2016 which will affect many businesses and Enterprise Zone Contribution Projects in La Plata and Archuleta counties. The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado, as the Southwest Enterprise Zone Administrator, is hosting three information meetings for area tax preparers and affected businesses. The presentation will cover options for businesses that utilize tax credits and are going out of the zone; detailed maps and information on the new boundaries; a tax credit overview; regional statistics on the credits; and reviewing the on-line pre-certification and certification system. Updated boundary maps, handouts system user guides will also be available.

The meeting dates and locations are:
Wednesday, May 6th 10 am to 12pm - Pagosa Quality Resort (South face room)

Tuesday, May 12th 10 to 12pm - Cortez Rec Center, Mesa Room

Wednesday, May 13th 10am to 12pm - Durango Public Library

The Enterprise Zone Tax Credit program is meant to encourage investment and assist businesses in economically distressed areas of the state. EZ status provides businesses located in these designated areas to be eligible for a variety of tax credits.

With the proposed changes, several census tracts in Archuleta and La Plata County will no longer be eligible, but several previously ineligible areas in La Plata County now meet the criteria.
