October 01, 2019

The Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado (Region 9) welcomes Alex Rugoff, the Business Development and Redevelopment Specialist for the City of Durango to their Board of Directors.  Prior to working with the City of Durango, Rugoff spent 4 years working on economic policy as a legislative staff member in the United States Senate and for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

“I’m honored to join the Region 9 Board and begin collaborating with economic development leaders across Southwest Colorado.  From Enterprise Zones to the Business Loan Fund, Region 9 plays a critical role in helping local businesses grow and I look forward to supporting these efforts,” said Rugoff.

Laura Lewis Marchino, executive director of Region 9 sees a lot of projects that will benefit the Durango community.

“The City of Durango has some large projects lined up for Alex including the Urban Renewal District, and opportunity zone projects,” said Lewis Marchino.  “We look forward to working with him however we can.”

Rugoff graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in economics.  When he’s not working, Alex spends his free time fly fishing, skiing, and rooting on CU sports.

Region 9’s board of directors has 26 members, 17 representing the region’s counties, Tribes and municipalities and nine from the private sector. The Board meets quarterly. For more information on Region 9, go to www.scan.org or call 970-247-9621.
